The ELOXYCHEM consortium combines top-class expertise from the fields of electrochemistry, process engineering, analytics, industrial chemicals production, process assessment, machine learning and digital tools.
The consortium includes 10 partners from 6 countries cooperating to reach the foreseen goals.
Coordinated by SINTEF, the consortium is made up of 4 Research institutes (SINTEF, MPI CEC, IDE and ICL), 4 SMEs (ESY, ZPR, ETA and IIL) and 2 large enterprises (Evonik and MEG).

The team

SINTEF is one of Europe’s largest independent research institution with over 2,200 employees from 80 different nationalities. SINTEF creates value through knowledge generation, research and innovation, and develops technological solutions that are brought into practical use. In ELOXYCHEM, SINTEF is the project coordinator and co-responsible for scale-up of the process to pilot plant scale including process design and optimization for the oxidation of cyclic alkenes.
IDENER is an interdisciplinary company using the potential of AI for solving challenging science and engineering problems. In the ELOXYCHEM project, IDENER will develop models to demonstrate the viability of integrating the process with renewable energy sources to enhance process sustainability, while mitigating adverse effects on the performance of the intermittent supply by advanced control Strategies. IDENER will also be responsible for the exploitation strategy.
Max-Planck Institute (MPI) is one of the leading non-university research organisations in Germany, carrying out innovative research in the natural, biological, social sciences and the humanities. As renowned experts in the field of electroorganic synthesis, in the ELOXYCHEM project MPI CEC is responsible for the development of electrosynthetic pathways for CYCLIC ALKENES, TOFA and SIDES lines.
Esy-Labs is an innovative spin-off from the Johannes-Gutenberg-University Mainz and the Fraunhofer Society, specialized in electrosynthesis for the production of organic as well as inorganic resources. As leading electrochemical oxidation experts, in ELOXYCHEM ESY-Labs will be in charge of the conceptual scale-up and process development with TOFA as substrate, as well as the process design, integration and assessment.
Z-Prime provides AI platforms and AI solutions to evolve, optimize and guide transformation in different sectors. In the ELOXYCHEM project, Z Prime is responsible for the digital technologies development and integration, including novel digital and AI-based technologies that will enable distributed process control and data driven optimization and planning.
Evonik Group is one of the world’s leading specialty chemicals company. It is active in more than 100 countries around the world with more than 33,000 employees. In the ELOXYCHEM project, Evonik is the driver and main responsible for the process development on pilot scale and – in cooperation with SINTEF – for the scale-up of the process to pilot scale including pilot plant design.
ICONIQ Innovation provides business consultancy services covering the entire innovation spectrum from conception through to commercialisation support through acquisition of R&D funding and project management support. In ELOXYCHEM, ICONIQ is responsible of the innovation management and exploitation.

Imperial College London focuses on science, engineering, medicine, and business. Within the project, Imperial College London is responsible of the sustainability credentials validation of ELOXYCHEM, carrying out environmental and social impact analysis.
Megara Resins is a Greek manufacturer and supplier of raw materials for industrial and architectural coatings as well as resin based and other synthetic resins for the paint, adhesive, paper and construction industry. For over 50 years, Megara has been a pioneer in creating innovative technologies, turning into one of the leading resins producers. In ELOXYCHEM, Megara is responsible for the validation of novel polyester resins.
ETA is a consultancy company and engineering firm based in Florence (Italy), active in the field of renewable energy, with a multi-disciplinary and international team. The company believes in fostering and supporting knowledge around the scientific, commercial and social exploitation of renewable energies. Within ELOXYCHEM, ETA is responsible for dissemination, communication and exploitation.
